Swedish design firm Form Us With Love has created a new desk chair for Scandinavian furniture manufacturer Savo, which is designed to adapt to our ever-changing work environments.
Named “Spine”, the simple-looking chair is based around a central column, which inspired its name. This was opted for both from an aesthetic and functional standpoint – as it means that the backrest and headrest parts can be fully adjusted up and down the spine, and can be taken off and replaced when broken or in need of repair.
The Spine chair arrives in six versions: four in standard desk chair heights and two higher settings with foot rings. The frame is available in either black painted or sandblasted aluminum, with a swivel base in black, white, or polished aluminum. 1 of 5 Savo 2 of 5 Savo 3 of 5 Savo 4 of 5 Savo 5 of 5 Savo
“Spine’s design breaks away from the conventional image of an office chair and the platform has style at many levels,” says John Löfgren, Creative Director and Co-founder of Form Us With Love. “Through a choice of materials and colors, Spine is able to go from neutral to an eyecatcher that takes its rightful place in a room or indeed the entire office.”
As typical with Form Us With Love’s work, the project was driven by problem-solving. The team wanted to create a product that would better serve the end user, while also serving the planet. As such, longevity and sustainability were considered at all points – and the concept of “reduce, reuse, repair, recycle” is embedded throughout the design.
“Instead of developing yet another chair, we combined our collective knowledge with Savo’s design philosophy and created a platform that meets the need for seating that can be tailored to suit changeable environments,” says Craig Howarth, Chief Commercial Officer at Savo. “Tomorrow’s workplace will be even more adaptable, and Spine raises flexibility to a whole new level and makes hybrid furniture a reality.”
